🎤 Review of the February Event

February open  mic was the first of 2026.  These open mics tend to be well attended, fun interactive sessions for 2 hours.

The night included learning some traditional dancing from a grandmother. Comparing the same song sung in different styles and the effect that had on the audience.  We were taught to beatbox by a student.  Mum and gran got the courage to take the mic and share the joys of singing (even though yes, that was scary for them too).  These nights are always full of laughter and madness, just the kind of end you would want after a long day.

📢The reason OPEN MICS are important

Our open mics gives our students and guests a safe non judgemental place in the Academy where they can showcase the skills they have gained in their classes.  Students are able to see that we all are learning and growing at different levels.  Take inspiration from each other, and be an inspiration to others in our own unique way.

Open mic is a place where we can sing outside your classroom to an audience, helping to gain confidence to perform and get the hit of the feel good vibes.  It's an opportunity to be able to get feedback from fellow singers.    Find out who else likes the same music as you, make a few friends.

🏆Personal achievements

We learn about mic control.  And how to read and engage with the audience.  To become aware of your performance skills and reflect on how to improve.  Gain experience and have evidence for your portfolios recording personal growth.

You will be building and putting  a list of songs that are in your repertoire (meaning your personal list of songs you nailed performing!) .

There are lots of ways to join in.  Play along with a percussion instrument, just sit and sing along, or just enjoy the vibe of the evening.  Come and get your hit of the feel good factor and have a positive evening. Lets not forget that you get lots of snacks.
