Ascending Tetrachord on the D String: TQ Violin

Are you ready to build essential skills to play the fundamental building blocks of music?

Things you need to be able to do

  • Find the notes E4, F sharp 4 and G4 on the D string and have the pitch within 15 cents

  • Use the upper bow to maintain a straight line.


Semibreve. A 4 count note.

Use the above middle section of the bow, and a slow bow so you don't run out.

Minim. A 2 count note.

When you play minims remember to use a faster bow, from the middle point to the tip.

Crotchet. A 1 count note.

When you play crotchets remember to use a faster bow, from the middle point to about half way to the tip.

2 Crotchets with 2 Crotchet Rests

On the beat with the crotchet rest, remember to keep your bow still and silent.


When you can respond correctly to the silences try and play with the piano accompaniment.


The accompaniment will still play during the silences of the violin. Listen first, then play along.

Remember to keep your bow still in the silences.





3 Crotchets with 1 Crotchet Rest

Now try this exercise
