Prelaudium: A study on BWV 939 by J.S. Bach

Exploring Bach's Preludium, BWV 939: A Comprehensive Study for Grade 3 Piano Students

This engaging four-week program delves into Johann Sebastian Bach's Preludium, BWV 939, offering a multifaceted learning experience for students nearing grade 3 level. Building upon a foundation of grade 2 theory knowledge, including scale degrees, intervals, and triads, this study goes beyond simply learning the notes.

Students will embark on a journey through musical history, exploring the context of Bach's work. They will delve into chord analysis using Roman numerals, deepen their understanding of scale degree names and interval descriptions, and even try their hand at composing a short piece in the style of the Preludium. The program also covers the technique of the inverted mordent and guides students through reflective practice to enhance their learning and performance.

In addition to the Preludium, the program incorporates excerpts from other notable Bach compositions, including Toccata and Fugue in D minor, Sleepers Awake, and Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, enriching the student's musical repertoire and understanding of Bach's unique style.
