This piece is part of a group or cycle of pieces written as student works, and progress slightly in difficulty through each half of the cycle. Bela Bartok was born in Hungary in 1881 and lived until 1945. As well as orchestral music he composed music based on Hungarian and Slovakian folk music for piano. This piece comes from a collection called "for children" . This is slightly deceiving as the pieces playable, and enjoyed, by students of all ages.
